Windows 8.1 has been available for downloads for 4 days now and here's why I was disappointed about this "major update".
The return of the Start Button

The Start button makes a return! But unfortunately its only function is to bring you back to the Metro start screen. So much for giving us a button. Thanks for nothing, Microsoft.
More options to Snap Metro Apps

Again. Metro screen should not even be messing around with my Desktop environment. Snapping 4 apps side-by-side (as compared to 2 apps before and only at 3:7 ratio) is a killer feature on a tablet, but not anything I would care for on my desktop. And also, may I point out that they are only changed on the width of the app on screen, and not the height? That is something easily done on the Desktop, and it baffles me how long it is taking Microsoft to do it on the Metro interface.
Deeper Skydrive integration
No props to Microsoft for this as this should have been done from the start. And I am still annoyed that I do not get extra storage using Windows 8.1 - I mean, anyone with a Hotmail/Outlook account has the same storage space allocated whether the user is running a Mac or original/pirated Windows 7/8.
Other Metro improvements
As you might have gathered above, I am still not sold on the concept of "Metro". Maybe one day I'll get a Leapfrog and all of that might change. But for now, scrolling like a mad man around the Metro interface just ticks me off.
Conclusion
If you are like me, and simply hate the Metro interface, do yourself a favor (if you have not yet), download Classic Shell Explorer 4.0 for Windows 8.1 - this is much improved and restores complete functionality of the Start Menu.
